LINDSBORG — Lindsborg’s Swimming Pool is having an end-of-summer party for dog owners and their pets this upcoming week — with special treats to raise money for a planned park.
The annual Doggy Dip will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. Admission will be $5 for adults.
Lindsborg’s Dog Park committee will have T-shirts, doggy treats and more for sale at the door to benefit the park.
“We’re having our dog park members make dog treats. We found some all-natural ingredients, so we’ll have the ingredients listed on a piece of paper in the bags. All these proceeds go toward raising money for our dog park,” said Angel Andrewson, chairman of the dog park committee.
“It’s a fun way to close down the swimming pool and to let the dogs of Lindsborg get out and have a nice pool party themselves before things get shut down,” said Beth Ferguson, Lindsborg’s recreation director.
Ferguson said there some ground rules for dog owners who wish to bring their pets:
• Dogs must have their vaccinations updated and their rabies vaccination.
• Only owners and their dogs are allowed into the water.
• If dogs become aggressive, they will be asked to leave.
• No dogs will be allowed in the deep end, on the water slide or in the diving board area.
• Female dogs in heat are not allowed.
• Dogs with open wounds are not allowed.
“I think it’s a fun event. It brings out people that support a good cause. Getting to see the dogs in the water is a fun time,” Ferguson said.
The money will go toward a water fountain for dogs and fencing.
“That’s our primary focus right now. We’re really pushing for the end of September to have the fence and fountain done,” Andrewson said. “We want to get something out there at the park so that people can see and say, ‘Hey, they’re doing something with the money I donated.’ When people donate money, they want to see something. Events like this help us so much.”
