Good news is in store for book worms in McPherson.

Twice Told Tales, a boutique secondhand bookstore, is here to stay with a new owner, Libby Monaghan.

Monaghan is no stranger to the store at 104 S. Main St. in McPherson — she worked there for two years prior to becoming the new owner.

“When Jessica (Niemeyer), the previous store’s owner, approached me about the idea it was very easy for me to say, ‘Yes,’ because I’m in love with this store. She’s been trying to sell it for a while. And just the thought of the store selling and not working with Jessica (Niemeyer) didn’t sit well with me. So it was very easy for my husband and I to say ‘Yes’ to jump on this,” she said.

Monaghan said she has no plans to change the way the store is run.

“For a while I want to keep it going the way it is. I just want to work on some behind-the-scenes stuff like ramping-up our online sales. But I really like the way the store is working and how it is right now. So, I don’t want to make any huge changes right out of the gate,” she said.

Changes Monaghan said she hopes to make in the future include adding sales of stationary cards and expanding the children’s section.

“We would just work with what we have. It’s kind of wall-to-wall right now but there’s some pretty big spaces, so I think we could just work within this area to add to it,” she said.

Monaghan said she plans to add part-time help next year once she gets the hang of things.

“Right now it’ll just be me and my husband on weekends. But right now I plan to dive in all by myself,” she said.

In addition to new ownership, Twice Told Tales is also celebrating its third year on Main Street this weekend.

“It’s exciting to be a part of this during our third-year anniversary. I’ve been around here for so long that it doesn’t feel like I’m brand new and I’m going to come in here and change everything. I get to celebrate what Twice Told Tales has been for the past three years and the way I’ve known it. McPherson has shown us so much love that it’s exciting to celebrate that rather than come in with fresh eyes and change everything,” she said.

Monaghan said she is thankful for being a part of McPherson’s Main Street and is excited to keep the liveliness Twice Told Tales has to offer to the community.

“The past several years McPherson has become something of a really beautiful and a cool community where people step in and help one another. And I love that I get to be a part of that Main Street experience,” she said.

The store’s three year anniversary celebrations will be held all day with children’s story time beginning at 11 a.m. at the store this Saturday. Noffy’s Sandwich Shop & Pub, 210 N. Main, McPherson will be offering food that day as well.
