On Aug. 2, 1984, at the age of 61, Carl B. Hedlund died as a result of complications following a heart attack.  

His Ashes have been in Arizona at Green Acres Cemetery.  

The surviving children: Carl B. Hedlund Jr., Gold Canyon, Ariz.; Dr. Gary Hedlund, Crowheart, Wyo.; Lisa Skelton of Portland, Ore.; and Carlene Hedlund of Phoenix, Ariz., are now bringing his ashes back to McPherson, where they will rest alongside his parents and siblings at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery. 

He was born in McPherson on April 24, 1923, the son of Waldemar V. and Inez (Johnson) Hedlund.  He grew up on the family farm with three brothers and four sisters.  

Upon completion of his military duties as a pilot in the Army Air Corps and United States Air Force, he settled in Phoenix, Ariz., where he prospered as businessman and respected community leader.

Ashes of Carl will now be committed to burial with a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. on  Saturday at New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Harry Grinstad officiating.  

Military honors will be presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715 and American Legion Post No. 24, both of McPherson.
