The McPherson Public Library offers an extensive selection of resources for persons interested in researching their family history, but a new type of resource is now available. Beginning Wednesday, April 1, members of the McPherson County Genealogy Society will volunteer their time on a regular basis to assist those who need advice or have encountered brick walls in their family history research.
Genealogy Society members will be available in the McPherson Room on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the exception of the second Wednesday of each month, when the time will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Library Director Steve Read noted that, while several library staff members are genealogists, the volunteers will bring an added dimension to library service.
“These people are all experienced genealogists, and they will have the time to work with library patrons and impart some of their knowledge,” he said. “We feel very fortunate that they are sharing their wisdom with others.”
