McPherson County Commissioners signed a contract with Hedlund Electric, Inc. regarding the new courthouse lighting project during Tuesday’s commission meeting.
The project will feature accent lighting on the south, east and west sides of the courthouse and will illuminate the turrets and clock tower. The project is funded solely by money from the Mingenback Foundation, which was a major factor in its implementation. The total for the contract with Hedlund is $105,375. Its expected completion date is November 4.
Kenneth Cook, Planning and Zoning Administrator, was given approval by commissioners to proceed with road vacations and closing requests for three locations in the county.
On Clover Lane, east of 23rd Avenue between 24th and 25th, the entire roadway will be vacated and a legal correction will be made. On 12th Avenue north of Eisenhower Road, a dead-end road will be closed to the public to honor the requests of the township and local property owner. On Pueblo Road, between Plum and First Avenue, the road will be closed to the public to help prevent unwanted activities.
In other meeting news:
•Commissioners signed a letter of support for a grant application to fund aerial photography to enhance 911 communications. Dianna Carter, County Appraiser, presented the request.
•Tom Kramer, Public Works Director, received approval from commissioners to rent scrapers and use county staff for the curve project at Ninth Avenue and Pioneer Road.
•John Klenda, County Counselor, discussed potential litigation matters regarding attorney and client privilege during a 30-minute executive session.
