The Galva City Council granted funds for two All Schools Day floats during the council’s March meeting.
Jim Struber, representing the Canton-Galva kindergarten float committee received $200 for construction of a float and also use of the city building.
Richard Baldwin, representing the Canton-Galva Royalty float also received $200 to be used by the Royalty Committee for float construction.
Both groups will be constructing floats that will be included in the 2010 All Schools Day parade to be held May 14 in McPherson.
In other meeting news:
•Cassie Becker requested funding for an Easter egg hunt to be held April 3. Becker received $150 for the annual event.
•Galva Police Chief Staci Curl received a new police vehicle. Council members approved the purchase of a $400 live-wire box to run the vehicle’s lights and siren. The box will be installed when the new vehicle arrives. Curl was also approved to attend a two-day training class at the end of the month.
•Baldwin noted that the Lynn Baldwin Memorial at the city’s baseball park was in need of repair. City superintendent Mark Hoppes said he would look at the damage which he thought could have been caused by excessive moisture.
•Council member Myrna Walline noted that the Free Tree Memorial at Park Henry was without a tree. The memorial was still in place but was absent a tree. Council members approved $300 to purchase a new tree.
