Edith DeEtte Huffman, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 4:49 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 while in the company of family members at McPherson Hospital, McPherson.
DeEtte was born in Jamestown, New York, on Dec. 24, 1922, the daughter of Allan and Lillian (Middleton) Firth.
DeEtte attended and graduated from Fayetteville High School, Fayetteville, N. Y. She then attended and graduated from The University of Kansas, Lawrence, with a bachelor of science degree in occupational therapy. She received her master’s degree from Wichita State University, Wichita.
She was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, McPherson, was the founder of St. Angela Merici Daughters of the King Chapter, a lector and served her church in other capacities.
DeEtte worked as an occupational therapist and consultant for the Wichita and Topeka area hospitals, and in her retirement, she was very involved in environmental issues.
DeEtte was a member of the Prairie Writers Circle, founder and past president of the Arkansas River Coalition, past president and member of the Kansas OT Association and a Sierra Club member.
Surviving family members include her children, Stephen Page and his wife Gweneth of Topeka, Page Worthington of Sedgwick, Thomas Page and his wife Catherine of Portland, Ore., and Louise Otero and her husband Frederick of McPherson; her 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
DeEtte was preceded in death by her parents.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, McPherson, with Father Laird MacGregor and Deacon Suzanne Layne officiating.
The final resting place will be at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita.
