Robert D. “Bob” Carlson, 83, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific. He also later served in the National Guard. He retired from Farmland Industries in 1990 as a parts foreman and diesel truck mechanic, working there for over 30 years.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post #24 and the V.F.W. Post #2715. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Survivors include: wife, Betty of the home; sons, Dennis Carlson and wife, Sherill A., of McPherson, and Steve Carlson and wife, Lori, of McPherson; daughter, Diane Rhea and husband, Terry, of Lake Kanopolis; brother, Carl E. Carlson and wife, Veola, of McPherson; half-brothers, Clarence Carlson of Pratt, and Marion Carlson and wife, Teri, of Kechi; half-sister, Carla Wolf of Salisbury, Md.; step-sisters, Jetty Cheney of Grimes, Iowa, and Juanita Beal and husband, Tyson, of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church, American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home.
