WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Spencer David Meyer, 20, of Winston-Salem, N.C., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. God blessed the Meyer family with Spencer on May 3, 1989, in Prairie Village. After moving to Winston-Salem in 2003, he graduated from Mt. Tabor High School in 2007 and was currently a junior at North Carolina State University, as well as a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, along with his dad. Spencer truly had a special gift for befriending people from all walks of life and was loved by all. His passion for life and living every moment to its fullest was an inspiration, along with his great sense of humor which brought great joy to family and friends. Spencer loved playing soccer, cooking with his mom, playing disc golf with his dad, creating music, listening to reggae, spending time with his fraternity brothers and friends at the Vanderbilt house, and enjoying great food. Spencer is survived by his parents, David and Lisa Meyer; sister, Courtney Meyer; brother, Duncan Meyer; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Meyer of Leavenworth; Mr. and Mrs. Royce C. Beam of McPherson; aunts and uncles Debbie and Jay Austill of Breckenridge, Colo.; Susan and Greg Turner of Buffalo, Mo.; Lori and Doug Dexter of Kansas City, Mo.; Alan Beam and Kathy Zaremba of Burrton; Dr. Daryl and Corina Beam of Hays; Neal Beam and Lela Beam; cousins Tyler Austill; Dawn, Crystal and Dustin Pollard; Corbin Dexter; Travis and Julie Beam; Tyler and Tanner Beam, and Kati and Kelsi Beam. Spencer had a contagious smile and will be dearly missed by his mom and dad; his wonderful brother and sister; Dakota, the family dog; Blair Lane, the love of his life; Ben Blaiss, his faithful friend; his roommates; fraternity brothers; and so many other family members and friends. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for so many dear friends who have showered us with love and prayer, as well as being the hands and feet of Christ during this time of grief. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Spencer’s memory to First Presbyterian Church (Spencer Meyer Memorial on memo line), 300 N. Cherry, Winston-Salem, NC, 27101, to support the church and their ministry to the Dominican Republic (Mission Emanuel). Spencer’s life was forever impacted through his mission service and especially by a child named Guillermina. A memorial service to celebrate Spencer’s life will be held at 2:00pm Thursday at First Presbyterian Church Worship Center with a reception following. Online condolences may be sent to www.salemfh.com
