Clifford R. Griggs, resident of McPherson, for the past two years, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2010 at the age of 92. He worked as a postal carrier before joining the Army Air Corps where he was stationed at Shepherd Field near Wichita Falls, Texas, until he received a medical discharge. He spent a short time at Tinker Field near Oklahoma City assembling aircraft engines until the end of WWII. Clifford worked for Eastern Airlines in Memphis, Tenn. In 1948 he transferred to Houston with Eastern and worked at Hobby Field until it closed, was involved in the opening of Houston Intercontinental Airport and worked there until he retired in 1984.
Clifford is survived by a brother, Robert Griggs and his wife Billie June, of Shawnee, OK; two sons, Jimmy Griggs and his wife Cynthia of McPherson; Gerald Griggs and his wife Luz of Goddard; four grandchildren, Jesse Griggs of O'Fallon, Mo., Jenny Griggs Gegg of Lincoln, Neb., Jackie Griggs Morris of Kalamazoo, Mich., Janice Griggs of Waldport, Ore.; six great grandchildren, Emma Griggs and Maya Griggs of O'Fallon; Olympia Gegg and Oslo Gegg of Lincoln, Neb.; Jazelle Morris and Joslyn Morris of Kalamazoo, Mich.
Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, Feb. 8 at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee, Okla. Interment will be at Dale Cemetery.
