Donald G. Margreiter, 80, retired school administrator, was born July 26, 1928, to Georgia (Taylor) and Mark Margreiter at Glen Elder. He passed away on July 7, 2009, at his home in Galva after a battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie, in 1966, and by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; four sons, Richard and (Lila) of Greensboro, N.C., Russell and (Janet) of  Galva, Bruce and (Pat) of Athens, Ala., Chance Cooper of McPherson and a daughter, Sue and (Kelly) Unruh of Galva; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Margreiter graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1945, he graduated from Bethany College in 1960 and from Wichita State in 1965. He was a classroom teacher in Gypsum and Haven, was grade school principal and teacher in Galva before becoming superintendent of the Canton-Galva schools from 1968-1991.

He was a member of the McPherson Masonic Lodge #172.

There will be no visitation, with a private family inurnment. A memorial service will be held at the Cedars Wellness Center, McPherson, on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. with a light lunch afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Kansas, McPherson, or to the Don Margreiter Scholarship Fund for Canton-Galva Students, in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson.
