Verda H. Horn, 93, of McPherson passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, while in the company of family members, at The Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.

Verda was born in Elyria, Kansas on May 18, 1916, the daughter of Valentine W. and Adina (Zerger) Krehbiel.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in McPherson.

Verda worked as a bookkeeper for her father at J. I. Case Co.; the ASC Office; Prairie Gardens; Pioneer Savings and Loan; and retired from Home State Bank in McPherson.

She graduated from Elyria Elementary School and McPherson High School. She then attended Salt City Business School in Hutchinson, Kansas.

On July 29, 1939, Verda was married to Luther D. Horn.

Surviving members of her family include her son, Dale V Horn and wife, Beverly, of Meridian, Idaho; her daughter Virginia Luty and husband, Bob, of McPherson; sister-in-law, Alice (Krehbiel) Schrag of McPherson; granddaughters Sherry Sheets (Eldon) of Homedale, Idaho, and Lori Oekerman (Guy) of Portland, Ore.; grandsons Brock Luty (Jo) of Carlsbad, California and Jeffrey Luty (MaryKate) of Abilene; granddaughter  Denise Klaske (Brent) of Rockford, Illinois; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hill of McPherson; brother-in-law Audean Horn of McPherson; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Verda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Dale Horn; her sisters Elda Graber, Leona Schrag, Dorothy Ortman, Ruth Goering, and Della Flickinger; and her brother, Harry Krehbiel.

The memorial service will be at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, with Pastor Les Cantrell and Dr. Claude E. Griffith officiating. 

Friends may call on Sunday, June 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the family present from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.   at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson.

Private family graveside services will precede the memorial service McPherson Cemetery in  McPherson.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church; The Cedars Health Care Center, or Hospice Care of Kansas, all of McPherson, Kansas and in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid Street, McPherson, KS 67460 .
