As we contemplate the arrival of the wonderful springtime, after a long season of dormancy in nature, our thoughts are turned to the emergence of new life. This week when the robins descended to my yard, I was reminded of the order that is evident in nature.
I am filled with awe and wonder at the renewal of life as I see it all around. A renewal which encompasses all living things which can transform a world of snow and ice and frigid temperatures, into a world of vibrant new life filled with color and fragrance. So I offer my thanks with these words, a paraphrase of the creation story as recorded in Genesis 1:1-25.
And so it was in all of those early days of creation, after the Lord God had created light and darkness, the dryland and the oceans and rivers, the sun, moon and stars. He knew that was good. He then turned his attention to the creation of all of the inhabitants on the Earth. The appearance of the towering sequoias and the smallest of the plant life. The winged creatures that darted from flower to flower, from the trees to the verdant grasses. The birds building their nests were a part of his plan to create new life. These same birds would fill the air with ethereal music.
The ponderous beasts, the mammoths and the hippos, the tall giraffes and the agile monkeys, all were testament to the wonderful sense of humor He must have had. When He looked at all of the creeping and crawling creatures that were eschewing the leaves of the succulent plants. He must have thought, “surely my world has room for great variety of delicate beauty. So He took inventory of the radiant colors in His great paint box. He had used some of the yellows, azures and greens to add color to the many songbirds which abounded in the fields and forest places.
Then with a stroke of genius He thought of the unseemly caterpillars. Truly they could use some help in the beauty department. With the kind of finesse evident in the rest of creation a plethora of tropical butterflies wafting from place to place with their large graceful wings, adding a display of the exotic to the remainder of the insect world. Since that moment on the fifth day of creation, this place which continued memoir we are privileged to inhabit is cause for me to give thanks in awe and wonder for the many creations I find in my McPherson flower garden.
It seems that especially this spring, the spring and early summer color amid the storms, which are also a part of his creation, God has made himself known in all of the great creation. I am but one of the multitude of people who have been given this gift of His, ours to enjoy, Thank You!
