I could not agree more with Dani Crist’s article in “Speak Out” in support of the half-cent sales tax proposal to maintain and upgrade our streets and sidewalks but before we agree to add that amount of money to their bottom line, let’s first get a guarantee that they will never again let anyone talk them into chip sealing another street within the city limits. I don’t know who makes these decisions but it is my recommendation that it be mandatory that the street in front of their house be chip sealed so they can experience the joy of living with it for months and months. Until you have removed small tar covered rocks from the carpet in your house or attempted to keep these small stones from invading your yard, driveway and garage you really are not qualified to make the decision as to whether this chip seal program should be utilized in our city. It would appear to be a safety hazard to those who ride motorcycles or maybe even bicycles when they make the turn onto a freshly chip sealed street and find themselves sliding on the loose rock and believe me there is plenty of loose rock. I have no doubts that the city has had a plethora of calls complaining about this chip sealing program that has been utilized for the past several years but it apparently is falling on deaf ears because we continue to have to live with the aftermath. They came by last week and chip sealed our street for the second time in the last four or five years, does that mean every other street in town that needed it has been completed so they are coming around for the second round or maybe it means that our street is sealed so well now that it will never have to be done again?
