Who:
Marck Cobb, candidate for the Kansas 1st Congressional District, is a retired U.S. Air Force Lt Col., who believes legislators in Washington D.C. have lost touch with the people they are supposed to represent.
“Part of the problem in Congress today is the representatives aren’t truly representing their constituents,” Cobb said. “They’re representing the lobbyists, interest groups and others providing financial support to keep them in office.”
Cobb, a licensed attorney, is a graduate of Galva Rural High School, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Naval Postgraduate School and Washburn University Law School. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
Why he’s running:
Cobb’s platform focuses on the economy, national security, agriculture and education.
“If we can’t get our economy to work by creating more jobs, we’ll never get out of deficit spending,” Cobb said.
Cobb, given his military experience, both as a combat pilot in Vietnam and his work as a Pentagon analyst, believes national security is being overlooked in this race.
“Without (looking at national security), it’s hard to keep everything else in its place,” Cobb said. “We need clear, stated goals and not political whims. Our military does a superb job following the orders of the president. But, the goals they are trying to accomplish are too generalized. I don’t think we need to change the culture in Iraq in Afghanistan. We need to accomplish the mission and bring our military home.”
His campaign:
Cobb is running a grassroots campaign, that depends on reaching out and meeting voters face to face. He keeps a small, unpaid staff, and recently unveiled an updated Web site, at www.marckcobb4congress.com.
