MHS Invite set Thursday

Joining MHS in the field are Derby, El Dorado, Graet Bend, Newton and Valley Center.
The action starts at 3 p.m. at the high school. All spectators are welcomed.

Elyria kickers defeated

Elyria Christian School lost its second game in as many days to a Class 4A school when Nickerson handed the Eagles a 4-2 setback Tuesday.
Nickerson led 2-0 at the half and pushed it out to 3-0 before the Eagles started to make a comeback.
Aaron Potter and Jared Stiebens responded with back-to-back goals to cut it to 3-2 before Nickerson scored a goal for insurance.
Coach Suhail Aroum said the team showed improvement as it could have folded when it fell behind by three goals.
The Eagles are off until Sept. 9 when they play at Mulvane.

MHS spikers drop two

McPherson High’s volleyball team, coming off a 5-1 weekend at the AVCTL Preseason Tournament, dropped both its matches in the Goddard triangular Tuesday.
Goddard outlasted the Bullpups 25-21, 25-18, while Derby was a 26-24, 25-21 winner.
“We played outstanding for the first 17 points against Goddard,” MHS coach Christy Doile said. “We had a breakdown in serve receive and we let Goddard take the momentum and we never got it back. Game two we put some runs together, but it wasn't consistent enough.  Against Derby we get off to a slow start and we recaptured the momentum. Paige Regnier goes back and serves several in a row to tie the game 24-24. Derby finally sides out and wins 24-26. Another slow start in set two and we make another run toward the end of the set, but our hole was too big.”
The MHS JV team began its season going 1-1, defeating Derby and losing to Goddard. Scores were not available.
MHS plays Tuesday at Andover.
