The Central Christian College softball team earned a split with the Bacon College Warriors on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers opened the day by taking game one 7-6, but fell in the series finale 2-4. Mandy Jacques was in the circle for the Tigers to start game one. She worked the first two and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on three hits. She left the game with a 5-2 lead, but didn't factor into the decision because she didn't pitch more than half of the innings. Ironically though she came back in with two outs in the top of the 7th inning, threw one pitch, got the final out, and recorded the save. She was relieved with two outs in the top of the 3rd inning by freshman Rhemi Aguero-Pacheco. She gave the Tigers four solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and a strikeout.
Bacone took an early 2-0 lead thanks to three errors in the inning by the Tigers. They added a 3rd run in the top of the 3rd, before the Tigers finally got on the board with their first run in the bottom of the 3rd. The Warriors got an insurance run in the 4th to take a 4-1 lead. The Tigers tried to mount a comeback, but it stalled with just one run in the bottom of the 6th. They got a runner 2nd base in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't find a way to bring her around to score.
With the split, the Tigers are now 3-32 on the season. They will be back in action April 19 at 2 and 4 p.m., on the road at Haskell University in Lawrence.
