Sophomore first baseman Lane Fleming (Council Grove, Council Grove High School) had four hits, including an RBI single in the 10th inning, to lead McPherson College past Central Christian College, 5-4, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday night at Light Capital Diamond.

It took until the fourth inning, but the Bulldogs finally broke through for a pair of runs on a pair of hits and a Tiger error. Fleming led off the inning with a single up the middle, then scored on a Reily Martin (Auburn, Hayden High School) double down the right-field line. Martin later scored when Dylan Fontenot (Lafayette, Louisiana, Carencro High School) reached courtesy of a throwing error on a dropped third strike.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth inning as Jakob Shields (DeSoto, DeSoto High School) doubled with one out. He scored one batter later when Fleming lofted another single, this one to left.

Central Christian (13-22) got on the board in the sixth when Hunter Wilcher hit a solo home run to left.

McPherson left the bases loaded in the seventh without scoring a run, leaving the door ajar for the hosts. The Tigers took advantage of the opportunity, cutting the Bulldog lead to 3-2 when Shomari Cann scored on a throwing error by Fontenot. Cann had reached on a two-out single up the middle, then moved to second on a single by Mario Rivera.

Following a scoreless eighth inning, the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 4-2 in the top of the ninth behind an RBI single from Martin that scored Shields. McPherson eventually loaded the bases but was unable to push another run across.

Needing just three outs to pick up the victory, the Bulldogs got the first out when Kenny Cordova flew out to right. Brian Marroquin added a single through the hole at short, scoring when Cann hit a two-run homer to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Dylan Klava (Douglas, Wyoming, Colby Community College) reached on a fielder's choice, then moved around to third on a groundout and a wild pitch before scoring on Fleming's fourth hit of the game.

Soren Yarnall (Tustin, California, Santa Ana College) entered the game in the bottom of the 10th for McPherson, getting two outs before Wilcher was awarded an intentional pass. He struck out Troy Carrigan to end the game.

The Bulldogs used four pitchers in the contest with Blake Ware (Overland Park, Allen County Community College), Cameron Oram and Jeromy Denton going three innings apiece. Denton picked up the win, allowing three runs - two earned - on four hits while walking four.

Soren Yarnall snagged the save after allowing just one walk and striking out two in a scoreless 10th inning.
