MARION–Except for cross-county Smoky Valley, the McPherson High track and field teams ran away from the competition on Thursday at the Marion Relays, winning the boys side with 109 team points while the girls rolled up a whopping 155.5 points in easily winning their side of the meet.

On the boys’ side, Smoky Valley came in second, 27 points behind with 82 while host Marion took third with 60, no other of the 13 teams competing scored 60 or more team points. The Lady Bullpups blew away all competition as Smoky Valley finished second with 87, a solid 68.5 points behind McPherson in the 12-team field.

With weather coming in on Friday, the meet was moved to Thursday and Bullpup Head Coach Jace Pavlovich was good with that.

“We were able to run in some great weather Thursday night. It was great to see some different competition, but we are going to have to get creative in the next week in practice with the weather to continue to improve,” Pavlovich said.

The Lady Bullpups rolled over the competition, scoring eight first-place finishes, including both the 4x100 and 4x400 Relays, Andrea Sweat in the High Jump, and Emma Malm in the 400 Meters, while both Emma Ruddle and Elle Barret were double winners, with the sophomore Ruddle gaining gold in the 100 Meters and 100 Meter Hurdles, while senior Barret won both the Long and Triple Jumps.

For the Bullpup boys, Devin Cape in the Triple Jump, Aren Trost in the 300 Meter Hurdles and Brandon Yowell in the 100 Meters all took first-place trophies, as did the quartets running the 4x100 and 4x800 Relays.

“Our kids handled the competition very well and they competed all night long as expected,” concluded Coach Pavlovich. “We had some great individual performances which let to both the boys and girls’ teams winning the meet.”

Next up for the Bullpup track teams will be a trip cross county to Lindsborg on Friday, April 13, to compete in the Smoky Valley Invitational along with 12 other teams.
