BUHLER— McPherson High School softball team’s postseason was cut short after getting shutout by Abilene High School in the Class 4A DI at Buhler High School on Tuesday.

McPherson ended the season at 4-17 of the year.

Both teams went scoreless in the first three innings.

Cowgirls scored two runs in the fourth inning — then grabbed another score on a line drive.

The Lady Pups committed six errors all day in their loss to Abilene.

The Cowgirls scored four more times  in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cowgirls hit a double and single to score two more runs to close out the game.

"You can't win a game without stringing together hits and scoring runs. We could not find our bats against the slower pitching Cowgirl team," head coach Danica Fitzmorris said. "We just couldn't find our rhythm in the box. We had our opportunities to score with runners on third in three different innings."

Addie Fitzmorris was the starting pitcher for the Bullpups.

Lasting six innings, she surrendered eight hits and nine runs.

She also nine strikeouts and walked one. Taylor Bruce was two-for-3 at bat.

"That loss ended up hurting us. Error free softball is dependent on consistency. That was not on option for us last night," Coach Fitzmorris said. "We charged the girls to look adversity in the face and learn from it. In a losing season it is hard to keep your composure and keep fighting, or girls never stopped, they did not blame each other and worked till the last out!.When softball gives you losses, look for good in the life lessons you learn from it."

Abilene would go and defeat Hays High School 12-6 the next game, earning the regional title and qualifying for State.
