Central Christian College Interim President, Dr. Lenny Favara, recently announced that the college has hired John Garvilla to be its next Director of Athletics. Garvilla replaces Steve “Twiggs” Reed, who resigned earlier in the summer to take the same position at Corban University in Salem, Oregon.
Dr. Favara says of Garvilla, “John comes to us with an impressive resume, with over twenty years of Administrative Leadership experience. He has honed his skill in managing athletic programs, fundraising, strategic planning and team building.” During his time as an AD, Garvilla has helped establish twenty new athletic programs, boasting an 85 percent graduation rate. He has raised in excess of $8,000,000 for collegiate and youth sports organizations and oversaw the construction and renovation for four outdoor complexes and two gymnasiums. Favara added, “He comes to CCC aligned to the mission of the college and shares a student-first, athlete second educational perspective. He has demonstrated skill in spiritual mentorship, administration, management, strategic leadership, and advancement. He understands that the heart of the college is about winning souls to Christ and developing them in their faith, using athletics as a platform.”
“I want to thank President Favara for the opportunity to lead Central Christian College Athletics and to serve on the institution’s Cabinet,” said Garvilla. “I also want to thank Dr. David Ferrell and the members of the Selection Committee for my being selected and for the thorough job in vetting me during the search process.”
