HUTCHINSON— The Swedes volleyball team suffered two tough losses today in the final day of the KCAC Fall Fling. Bethany first fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan, 25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 22-25 before taking Avila to five sets coming up just short, 27-25, 20-25, 37-35, 23-25, 9-15.

OKWU – 3, Bethany – 1

The Swedes stayed steady throughout the first set, keeping control over the game, indifferent to the score. However, then OKWU picked up their game gaining some momentum throughout the next three sets. While the Swedes were right in it during the entire match, they were not able to take away the match from the Eagles.

Jordan Valentine and Serenity Storey, freshmen middles, led the Bethany offense with 10 kills each. Madie Baker, junior hitter, came screaming in behind them with eight kills. Ivano Vojvodic, junior setter, was a major key to the Swedes offense with 34 assists.

Vojvodic also was just behind Hi'ialo Apo, junior libero, to lead the team in digs. Apo notched 15 while Vojvodic added up 14 digs.

Valentine added two service aces to her line while Taylor Weems, sophomore passer, served up on ace herself.

 Avila – 3, Bethany – 2

This match was a fight to the finish, going to five sets, and to extra points in two of those sets. The Swedes picked up the win 27-25 before Avila rebounded with a 25-20 second set win. The third set then went to 37-35 with every point fought tooth and nail for. However, the Eagles took the next two sets, 25-23, and 15-9.

Valentine led the team with 24 kills, while Baker and Storey each added 10 kills to the mix. Again, Vojvodic led the team with 48 assists.

Defensively, Apo led the team 23 digs while Vojvodic had 12, Brenna Black, junior passer, notched 21, and Mariah Lombardo, freshman passer, added 15 of her own digs to the mix.
