The Smoky Valley High School volleyball team, McPherson High School and the Canton-Galva High School cross county teams were in action on Thursday.
Smoky Valley Netters Go 1-2
ABILENE—At a quad meet in Abilene the Smoky Valley High School volleyball team finished with a 1-2 mark on the afternoon.
In the first match, the Lady Vikings dropped straight sets to host Abilene 17-25, 19-25, before bouncing back to score a three-set victory over Thomas Moore Prep 19-25, 25-18, 25-18. Smoky Valley finished out the road trip with a straight set, but hard fought 17-25, 23-25 loss to Concordia.
Next up for the Smoky Valley volleyball team will be a road trip to Nickerson on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Bullpups travels to Great Bend for a meet.
GREAT BEND— The McPherson High School cross country had their meet at Lake Barton X-C Course on Thursday. Both the boys and girls team finished in fifth place.
Kassidy Beam, for the girls, was the Bullpups' top performer as she finished third with a running time of 17:59.0.
The boys, no one for the McPherson had a top ten finish. Isaiah Moyer was the first to finish for the Bullpups as he was placed 15th with a time of 15:14.9 Justus Hampton wasn't too far off as he took 19th with the time of 15:44.2.
Next invitational for the Bullpups will be the Hesston Golf Park on Thursday, Sept.6.
Canton-Galva runs at Tescott
TESCOTT—Morgan Becker kicked off the 2018 season for the Canton-Galva cross country team with a fourth-place finish at Tescott on Thursday, running a time of 19:28. Becker, just a freshman running in his first high school meet, ran a strong race, moving into fourth in the final stretch after being in fifth after the first mile.
As the only Lady Eagle running the varsity race, Leah Silsby landed in 18th place with a time of 27:08. Sarah Kendall finished sixth in the junior varsity girls run, while Jerry Bradbury placed eighth in the boys junior varsity race.
Next run for the Canton-Galva cross country teams will be on Thursday, Sept. 6, when they run at Hesston.
