WINFIELD— McPherson High School football team were able to run away with a dominating performance over Winfield High School, sealing their first road win 47-7 on Friday night.

The Bullpups went into tonight's game 0-6 against week two opponents. McPherson snapped that streak early on in the first half after putting up 34 points.

Kyler Hoppes threw three touchdown passes against the Vikings. The first two he connected with Gabe Hoover. The third pass was a bubble screen to Tayln Huff, where he ran 68 yards to the end zone, showing his track speed by outrunning the Vikings' defense.

"We have dynamic receivers from across the boards, and that's pretty special to have in your play call," Bullpups head coach Jace Pavlovich said.

Bullpups runningback Jace Kinnamon would rush three more touchdowns on the ground, despite Vikings' defense able to stop the run by stacking the box, but it wasn't enough.

"We just going to take what they gave us. Offensive line wise we were one guy away on every play even with a stacked box," Pavlovich said. "We were one physical mistake away from popping a big one. The play Jace broke, he had a great cut on it and we got hat on a hat like we had planned."

McPherson's defense, despite giving up one touchdown, was able to keep the Vikings' offense off the field through 3-and-outs and creating turnovers, which would set the Bullpups' offense in good field position.

"They done a lot of shifts to try to personel us, they did a good job with that," Pavlovich said. "We don't out coached people because there's quality coaches across the league, and Linn Hibbs is no exception. He drew up some pretty good things and the kids executed well, but at the end of the day our kids just performed very well.

The highlight of the night was Noah Avila recovered a blocked punt Cody Stufflebean made, which would lead to a scoop-and-score touchdown late in the third quarter. It was a running clock after that, and the Bullpups ran away with another dominant performance.

"I should've been on the defensive end at the end of the headsets because I would've called that one off," Pavlovich said.

The Bullpups are now 2-0 of the year, and will be back on the road next Friday Sept.14 as they will face El Dorado High School at 7 p.m.
