OKLAHOMA, OK—The Central Christian College volleyball team is still looking for their first win of the 2018 season. On Friday night, the Tigers fell in straight sets, on the road at Oklahoma City University.
The OCU Stars took sets 1 and 3 by the same score, 25-14, and sandwiched in between was a 25-8 win in set No.2. The Tiger offense took 88 swings at the ball, but came away with only 16 kills on the night. They were led offensively by senior Rebekah Glessner, who finished the night with seven kills on 18 swings and only three errors.
On defense, the Tigers accumulated 43 defensive digs against the Stars, led by senior libero, Desiree Padilla, who recorded 11. The Tigers also got their first block of the season, a solo block by Anslee Bridges.
"Tonight was a tough three set loss," said Central head coach Jeremy Manning, "but it was also the first real action for two of our new faces." Manning went on to add, "It was also the first time this season we have put a regular lineup on the court. I saw a lot of good things on the court and also saw growth opportunities. We competed every point we just let OCU go on a few serving runs and that was really the game." He lauded the play of Glessner, Padilla, and Morgan Cooksaying, "Rebekah Glessner was great on the offensive side of the ball and Morgan Cook helped out with some key blocks, touches and added a few kills of her own. Desiree Padilla led the team with 11 digs but proved much more valuable with her hustle chasing down numerous errant passes. We are looking forward to build on our successes tomorrow against SCU."
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-3 overall, and 0-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They will take the floor again on Saturday, this time for a 1:00 pm match up in Bethany, Okla. against the Southwestern Christian University Eagles.
