MAIZE—The McPherson High School boys soccer end the Maize South Invitational on a strong note on Saturday after shutting out Thomas Moore Prep 5-0, placing the Bullpups a fifth-place finish.

"It was a nice game for the boys, and one that should give them a lot of confidence going into an important week of the season," head coach Chris Adrian said.

The Bullpups started off strong early after scoring two straight goals in less than 10 minutes in the first half. The first goal was from Britton Haigh with a Cody Achilles assist. Minutes later, Rhett Edmonson, Jael Jamie's assist, gave the Bullpups their second goal of the day.

Drew Schrader put on a show as he scored two goals of his own in both the first and second half.

"Drew Schrader played his best game of the season and seemed to be involved in just about everything," Adrian said. "It was nice to see him rewarded for all his work with two nice goals."

Haigh scored his second goal of the day to give the Bullpups their fifth goal of the night assisted by Austin Monroe. McPherson outshot TMP with 24 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Nathan Lloyd produced five saves.

"Trenton Stecklein is another player that deserves some serious praise," Adrian said. "He was excellent in the second half and was an enforcer on the defensive end tackling, and winning balls out of the air."

"We are now 4-1 after the first two weeks and head into an important stretch of the season against some difficult opponents."

The Bullpups will return at McPherson Stadium as Rose Hill High School will be in town. Kickoff will be on Tuesday, Sept.11at 7:30 p.m.
