HESSTON — Despite a more balanced attack from the Smoky Valley High School tennis team, the Vikings could not match Hesston’s high-powered attack Saturday at the Hesston Invitational.
The Vikings had solid showings in both singles and doubles entries, but Hesston took first and second in doubles and second in singles to accumulate 90 points. The Vikings, who had top-seven finishes in all four categories, finished with 82 points.
The Vikings were headlined by their doubles teams, who took third and fourth respectively. After both teams lost to Hesston in the semifinals, Rachel Yenni and Kari Elliott defeated Lana Clark and Morgan Bowles, 8-5, for third place.
In singles, Kira Haxton and Isabelle Wright both made the quarterfinals. Haxton went 3-1 for fifth place while Wright was 2-2 for seventh.
The Vikings are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Ellsworth.
