In a near perfect day for playing outside, the McPherson Middle School girls tennis team opened their 2018 season with a commanding 13-0 victory over Salina Lakewood on their newly remodeled home courts in Wall Park.

“The weather was perfect for our first dual of the season while we got to show off the new Wall Park tennis courts,” noted Middle School tennis Head Coach Ricardo Sanchez. “Even though we were able to win all of our dual matches, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Our #1 doubles team learned that playing the top players from other teams means just getting the ball back into play wasn’t always enough. We are going to keep focusing on our strokes this week in practice, but also in game strategy.”

On Monday, Sept. 17, the Junior Lady Pup netters will take their nine top players to Maize for the Maize South Middle School Invitational.

“Not only will the level of competition be tough in Maize, if the girls put themselves in position to medal they will need to play six matches back to back,” added Coach Sanchez. “I’m hopeful after our players experienced today’s dual, they will be focused and driven to get better in practice.”
