On Thursday, the McPherson High School freshman volleyball team was in action as was the Little River spikers, while Smoky Valley had a late report from action on Tuesday.

Bullpup freshman split two matches

On Thursday, the McPherson High School freshman volleyball team played host to Circle and Mulvane, earning a split with the two teams.

In the first match of the day, the freshman Lady Bullpups took down Mulvane by coming from behind after a first set loss, 15-25, to win back-to-back sets 28-26, 15-0.

Against Circle, McPherson won the middle set, 25-21, but were unable to take a victory in the first and third set, losing the sets, 19-25, 6-15, and the match.

Next up for the Bullpup freshman spikers will be on Thursday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Augusta for a quad that will include Buhler and El Dorado.

Little River Spikers lose to Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH—The Little River High School volleyball team struggled on Thursday with Ellsworth and ended up losing the best of five-set match in straight three-sets, 17-25, 17-25, 19-25.

Leading the Little River spikers in kills for the match were Lily Boughman with nine, Morgan Konen and Abbie Hudson each with four and Mekenzie Renken with two.

“We struggled a bit tonight adjusting with the absence of our Libero starter Emma Wright,” said Little River Head Coach Kim Rolfs. “We could play dead even with Ellsworth half of the set and then Ellsworth would go on a 6-2 run and we just couldn’t put enough plays to together to catch up. We will regroup and let this be a learning experience moving forward.”

Smoky Valley Spikers drop two at Lyons

LYONS—On Tuesday, the Smoky Valley High School volleyball team traveled to Lyons for a triangular with Lyons and Hillsboro and returned home with two losses, losing to both Hillsboro (18-25, 25-22, 13-25) and host Lyons (18-25, 26-24, 23-25) in hard fought three-set matches.

The Lady Viking Junior Varsity spikers split their two matches, taking down Lyons in straight sets (25-12, 25-16) before falling to Hillsboro in three-sets (15-25, 25-19, 6-15).
