EL DORADO— The McPherson High School Bullpups scored eight touchdowns, and scored on six consecutive drives as they put away El Dorado High School 56-8 on Friday, improving to 3-0 of the year.
The Wildcats were without their starting quarterback Cody Wittenberg and running back Jackson Schell due to injuries. The Bullpups' defense took advantage by not giving the Wildcats an inch of scoring position led by Khalil Lisbon, who recorded three tackles-for-loss. THe Wildcats were able to record 152 total yards.
While on offense, Jace Kinnamon was off to a hot start in the first quarter after rushing two touchdowns. One was a simple one-yarder in the goal line. After McPherson recovered a fumble, the Bullpups were in good field position, and Kinnamon would break six tackles that will lead to a 37-yard touchdown. Not bad for a senior bruising back who still not at 100 percent.
"He did a phenomenal job. He's kind of nursing a hamstring, but obviously was feeling pretty well tonight," Bullpups head coach Jace Pavlovich said.
In the second quarter, it was Chandler Wiard's turn to put points on the board. He scored two more touchdowns offensively after catching a 26-yard pass from Kyler Hoppes and defensively at free safety after catching an interception that will lead to a 38-yard pick six. The Wildcats committed two turnovers, and it will lead to the Bullpups scoring on the next drive. With 52 seconds left Hoppes finds Gabe Hoover for the Bullpups' fifth touchdown to end the first half. McPherson put up 246 total yards while El Dorado only has 36 yards at halftime.
"It's our goal to remain balance," Pavlovich said. "We want to keep teams on their heels, and again it's a luxury to have that many skilled guys as you have, and you have as many line as good as they are."
A quarterback that knows how to deliver and tailbacks took the rock very well. It's as luxurious as a play-caller to have these kids."
Kinnamon scored two more rushing touchdowns in the second half to put away the Wildcats early. As McPherson lead 49-0, the running clock began five minutes left in the third.
El Dorado was able to avoid a shutout after Quiston Wade makes a big run against the Bullpups second-team team. Before reaching the two-minute mark, freshman running back Sky Schriner out runs El Dorado for 40 yards. Back up quarterback Aiden Hoover would then scramble his way for the Bullpups eighth touchdown to end the game.
"Our guys did a great job all night. Offensively, we were in a rhythm all night long," Pavlovich said."The only thing that really stopped us was penalties, and there are things that needs to address there , but our guys were being physical and aggressive just like you want to in a game where you feel like you should win. I couldn't been more prouder with these guys."
As the Bullpups improve to 3-0, they will return home next Friday, Sept.21 as Abilene High School will be in town. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
