KANSAS CITY, MO—The Swedes volleyball team picked up two big road wins today. Bethany first swept KCAC opponent, Avila University before defeating non-conference school, Fontbonne University.
Bethany – 3, Avila - 0
While the Eagles from Avila made it the Swedes work for it. The Swedes fought for a first-game win, 25-23. However, Bethany then rolled through the second set, 25-15. The Eagles, battled back in the third set, but the Swedes were able to get the sweep with a 25-23 set three win.
Three Swedes came in with 12 kills each; Jordan Valentine, freshman middle, Nakajeya Massenburg, freshman hitter, and Jolinalynn Achiu, senior hitter. Ivona Vojvodic, junior setter, did the setting duties for the Swedes, notching 37 assists during the match. Meanwhile in the back row, Haley Reifsteck, sophomore libero, added 17 digs to her number.
Bethany – 3, Fontebonne - 1
The Swedes took the first two sets with relative ease, 25-18 and 25-18. However, Fontebonne rebounded to take set three 25-23 before the Swedes were able to put away the match in the fourth set with a 25-17 win.
Valentine and Massenburg again led the team with 23 and 14 kills, respectively. Vojvodic added 45 assists to her number on the day. Three Swedes earned double-digit digs; Reifsteck had 19 digs, Vojvodic had 12, and Brittney Roush, junior passer, picked up 10.
