HILLSBORO—The Swedes football wrapped up the 2018 season today. Unfortunately, they were unable to take down the Tabor Bluejays, falling in the contest, 49-18.

The Bethany defense was the first to strike when Deauntre Roberts, junior defensive back, picked off a Bluejay throw and ran it back for a 24-yard touchdown. However, the Bluejays were able to take the lead just before the end of the first quarter with a touchdown of their own.

In the second quarter, Tabor was able to extend their lead scoring three touchdowns. The Swedes went into the half trailing 28-6.

Bethany was able to score first again in the second half when Austin Denson, junior quarterback, connected with Jafar Thomas, senior receiver, for a 27-yard touchdown. The Bluejays answered then with two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

In the fourth, the Swedes once again struck first with another Denson to Thomas connection. This time for a 75-yard touchdown. Tabor then scored once more before the end of the game.

The Details . . .

Denson and Isaiah Salazar, senior quarterback, split time in the quarterback duties. Denson completed five of 12 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Salazar was 10-16 for 94 yards. Thomas was Bethany's main receiver with four catches for 176 yards.

Defensively, Greg Harvey, sophomore linebacker, led the team with eight tackles, seven of which were solo. Harvey also recorded one tackle for a loss of three yards.

The Swedes finish up the 2018 season with a 2-9 overall record, going 2-8 in KCAC play.
