The McPherson College women's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season, and 2-0 in this weekend's McPherson Classic, with a win over the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies on Saturday.
The Bulldogs opened the game on a 9-1 run, a game in which they lead from start to finish. They won their third straight game to open the season, as they beat Oklahoma Panhandle State University handily, 66-46.
In a low-scoring game, there was no shortage of offense for McPherson's Sonerka White, as she scored a game-high 22 points on 8-13 shooting. This game was a show of the Bulldogs' prowess. They never lead by less than six points, and never gave the Aggies any hope.
Brittany Roberts was the second-leading scorer for the Bulldogs, scoring 15 points on 5-13 shooting, and Asya White added 11 points of her own.
White was the best when it came to spreading the ball around to her teammates, as she tallied four assists, good for the most for McPherson. Both Roberts and White also added three steals for the Bulldogs.
Danielle Holt had 16 total rebounds, and Roberts had 17 rebounds tied the program record for most rebounds in a single game, and which helped McPherson in what was an incredibly dominant game on the boards for the Bulldogs, as they had the advantage 61-40.
"I thought we came out and took it to them early", head coach Josh Nichols said, Nichols also added, "Slim got us off to a fast start with some good drives and a jumper. Once the game started to slow down we used Brittany inside and they didn't really have an answer for (that). Our defense was good for the most of the night, had a few break downs, but our effort was there all night. Dani Holt and Brittany controlled the glass for us and held them to one and done."
The Bulldogs will try to continue this hot start to their season when they play Central Christian College in the inaugural "Mayor's Cup" on Wednesday at the McPherson High School "Round House". It will be a rematch of the game the Bulldogs and Tigers played on Friday that the Bulldogs won 75-53.
