McPherson High graduate Jordan Fithian was named to the USA Team Handball Roster for the 16-player unit (plus seven alternates) that faces off against Canada on Dec. 21 and 23 in a Pan American Games qualification series.
Team USA is seeking to earn a berth in the Pan American Games (scheduled for October 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico) for the first time since 2003 in the Dominican Republic where they earned a bronze medal. Most recently, in 2007, Team USA failed to qualify after losing a best-of-three series to Canada.
“We have selected the best possible mix of talent, experience and attitudes to succeed against our Canadian counterparts,” said Mariusz Wartalowicz, technical director. “We expect that every player who made this roster comes to Lake Placid on Dec. 15 motivated and with something to prove.”
He is the son of Carol and Jerry Fithian of McPherson, and a former MHS basketball star.
