MANHATTAN -- McPherson High graduate Ashley Sweat was named this week to the Big 12 All-Conference first team in a vote of coaches.
The Kansas State senior finished the regular season ranked fifth in the Big 12 in scoring at 16.7 points a game. She has scored 501 points this season, only the 10th player in school history to reach 500 for a season and only the fifth to do it in back-to-back years.
Sweat is second on the team in rebounds (5.1) and blocked shots (17). She had an outstanding year at the foul line, making 132 of 162.
Player of the Year Kelsey Griffin of Nebraska headlined the first team.
Also selected were Britney Griner of Baylor, Alison Lacey of Iowa State, Cory Montgomery and Yvonne Turner of Nebraska, Danielle Robinson and Amanda Thompson of Oklahoma, Andrea Riley of Oklahoma State and Tanisha Smith of Texas A & M.
