WICHITA -- McPherson High’s swimming team tuned up for the upcoming league meet by competing Thursday in the Wichita Northwest Invitational.
Kyle Cottrell swam a personal-best in the 500 freestyle and took sixth for a medal, while the other MHS points were from Cody Persson in the 100 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay team of Cottrell, Aaron Marshall, Charles Kinzel and Derick Goodson.
MHS scored 17 points to place 13th in the meet, which was won by Maize.
MHS coach Bonnie Sue Fisher said personal-best times were recorded by Cottrell and David Plenert in the 200 individual medley. Aaron Marshall continued to close in on a state-qualifying time in the 50 freestyle.
Fisher said T.J. Smith, Ryan Clark and Sawyer Hambley had personal-best times in the 50 freestyle.
Fisher said the team will now gear up for the league meet, scheduled for Feb. 13 at El Dorado
