Who is he:
Tracey Mann, a commercial real estate agent and candidate for the Kansas 1st Congressional District, was born on a farm in Quinter and said the summer of 1997 was the first time he wasn’t on that farm.
“I was Jerry Moran’s first intern,” Mann said. “He instilled a love of Kansas that has never left me.”
Mann graduated from Kansas State University, where he served as student body president. He graduated with a degree in agricultural economics. He is married to Audrey Haynes.
Why is he
running:
“I feel like we need people with business experience in Washington D.C.,” Mann said. “Not political experience. I call on and work with hundreds of Kansas companies. The breadth of my experience will lend itself very well to working in Congress.”
Mann said that more fiscal discipline is needed in Washington, and that the size of government needs to be decreased. He’s also concerned about the decline of rural representation in a Congress that is becoming increasingly urbanized.
“We need to protect agricultural interests,” Mann said.
Another of his priorities is economic development.
“We need to bring in new businesses,” Mann said. “But, in some parts of the district, the question is how do we keep our grocery stores open for another year.”
His campaign:
Mann just opened a campaign office in Salina, and was recently endorsed by former Congressman, University of Nebraska Football Head Coach and Current Athletic Director Tom Osborne. However, the endorsement he’s most interested in are the ones that come on election day.
“In the end, we’re looking for the endorsement of the voters,” Mann said.
