The McPherson Board of Public Utilities general manager Tim Maier admits 2009 was not a spectacular year for the utility but things could have been worse, much worse.
Maier presented 2009 year-end sales and revenue data for both water and electricity during Monday’s board meeting.
BPU’s electrical sales were down 0.86 percent from 2008 while revenue was down 0.81 percent.
Much of the decline was due to overall consumption declines. The utility’s industrial companies used 0.75 percent less electricity last year than in 2008. Residential and commercial use also decline slightly from 2008 levels.
BPU sold 22 percent more electricity to Westar in 2009 when compared to 2008 but saw less revenue from the sales because of declining generation prices.
Sept. 13 has the highest daily-demand level last year with 133,000 KWH used in a 24-hour period.
Water sales and revenue also declined for the utility in 2009. Revenue for 2009 dipped 4.35 percent from 2008 levels. Usage also declined last year with BPU’s commercial customers - which also includes the city’s large industrial companies- declined 8.9 percent from 2008 levels.
