McPherson County’s 2011 budget is remaining basically the same as last year, with modest cuts or increases to several departments.
Expenditure estimates for 2010 are up about $913,000 over 2009 levels. The county anticipates a tax levy in 2011 of $8,809,670. Several departments, such as special alcohol, special parks and recreations and technology are funded through fees.
Elections saw a cut of $30,175, due to the fact that there are no scheduled elections next year. Soil conservation saw an increase of $825 for increased staff. And services for the elderly was increased by nearly $4,000, as the county helps fund nine senior centers throughout the county.
One area that saw another increase was employee benefits, due to recently enacted health care legislation. The county expects a 4 percent rise in premiums.
Commissioners reported that the county’s reserves remained healthy, as commissioners attempt to use those funds to offset possible increases to the mill levy.
A copy of the county budget is available for public inspection. Copies can be obtained by contacting the county administrator. However, the county is also planning to post it online.
