Bringing it home: Bullpups claim 4A state baseball title

SALINA, Kansas – For the McPherson High School baseball team, all the boxes were checked except for one entering the class 4A state tournament – which would be the school’s first ever state baseball title. After Friday evening’s championship game concluded, that final box was checked for the Bullpups as they defeated the Tonganoxie Chieftans 5-2 at Dean Evan’s Stadium in Salina.

Little River Loses in State Title Game, 5-4

GREAT BEND – After scoring two come from behind wins, the Little River baseball team ran out of come back juice in the Class 2-1A State Championship game on Friday and lost 5-4 to Mission Valley. In their state quarterfinal game, the Redskins gained a 7-5 victory over Elkhart after being down 4-0 and then in the state semi-final matchup with unbeaten and top-seeded Colony/Crest, Little River overcame a five-run deficit to take the game into overtime before winning 10-8 and giving them a shot at a state championship.

Another day in America and Kansas: Senseless murder of children and a fifth-grade graduation

The same day that a shooter opened fire at a school in Uvalde, Texas, I attended my son’s fifth-grade graduation. The same day that 19 students from that school died, along with two teachers, I stood next to my husband and applauded after our camera-shy son took a certificate from his teacher.
