Hawk Works the Challenges of Area Trash

(Another in our series of “Profiles of McPherson County Business Leaders”) MCPHERSON – In today’s ‘Profile of McPherson County Business Leaders’ we look to introduce you to John Hawk, the person in charge of our trash and recycling with the McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility (MASWU). While many do not seem to take trash and recycling seriously, John Hawk does as he leads MASWU into a future with questions about how to stay competitive and cost effective in keeping our community and county cleaned up.

Suicide Warning Signs

In 2020, the latest year for which statistics were available, 45,979 Americans died by suicide and there were an estimated 1,200,000 suicide attempts according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On average, there are 130 suicides per day. Here are some warning signs that you can look for that may prevent one of those deaths.

The Problem with Every Man’s Heart

Clay Center, Kansas – Why does God appear so hard on men versus women? He says, “Husbands . . . do not be harsh with [your wives].” (Colossians 3:18) And He follows that up with, “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” (Col. 3:20) Since God is all-wise, why did He not address the women, teaching them not to be harsh with their husbands, and urging them also to refrain from provoking the children?

Annual fishing derby hooks 100 participants

MCPHERSON – Worms were skewered, lines were set, and bobbers were bobbing across Lakeside Park on Saturday, June 18 as the 16th annual Youth Fishing Derby was held Saturday morning and afternoon. The free event that is made possible by the City of McPherson and generous amount of donations by the derby’s sponsors reeled in over 100 participants in 16th year of the event.
