Patricia C. Cheatham, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born October 25, 1937 in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Orlie D. and Hazel (Becker) Becker.

Allen Edward Boyer, 84, of Loveland, CO, passed away in the presence of his family on July 21, 2022. Allen was born on July 8, 1938, to Charles and Winona Boyer in Danbury, NE. After graduating from Solomon High School in 1956 he spent his summer custom cutting wheat and then joined the Army where he became a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After 3 years in the service, he was honorably discharged. In 1965 Allen married his wife of 57 years, Vada Koehn. They raised two children, Tameria Janae (Boyer) Dishman and David Austin Boyer. Allen spent 17 years as a brick and stone mason and then worked for Johns Manville where he retired after 20 years. Allen loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing cards. It was an annual event to meet his brothers and nephews on opening day of pheasant season and spend the day together. In addition to family he was especially close to his friends Charlie Johnson, Loren Boughman and Steve Marquez.

16U: MCPHERSON – The saying goes “All good things come to an end,” but the McPherson Bullpup summer baseball teams are trying stretch that as much as possible as two of the three McPherson summer teams advanced to the final day of their season-ending tournament. The four-day End of Summer Tournament that the 18, 17, and 16 and under McPherson baseball teams are competing in is being held between McPherson’s Grant Sports Complex and Wheatland Park over in Buhler, with the 18U and 16U Bullpup teams making it through to the final day.
Due to the ongoing issue with staff shortages, the McPherson Water Park is cancelling all private parties for the remainder of the pool season. At Tuesday morning’s McPherson City Commission meeting, commissioners voted 3-0 to adopt the staff ’s recommendation and refund those who booked private parties for the summer.
As a clinical professor at my state’s medical school, I frequently have medical students seeing patients with me in clinic. While the majority of patients are happy to allow student involvement, some decline. This makes me wonder what misconceptions lead patients to be averse to trainees participating at their clinic visits or hospital bedsides. In my experience, the presence of learners has a positive influence on our work in the clinic and hospital.
