The month of October is Principal Appreciation month for the education system in Kansas. Throughout the month, the McPherson Sentinel will be giving recognition to principals and other leaders from different towns throughout McPherson County. ww Today we have two spotlights: From St. Joseph Catholic School, Principal Peggy Bahr and from Washington Elementary School, Principal Jill Beam. Both Principal Bahr and Principal Beam have served their schools in McPherson for over a decade.
Ralph H. Herrold, 82, passed away on October 9, 2022, in Leawood, KS. He was born in McPherson, KS to JB and Erma Herrold and is preceded in death by his wife Jackie. He is survived by children Jack and Deidra, daughter in law Michelle and grandchildren Nick, Eleanor and Claire. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on October 24 at the McPherson KS Church of Christ.
Loren Lewis Stubby, 85, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:00 a.m, Friday, October 14th, 2022 at his residence. Loren was born in Hillsboro, Kansas on May 29, 1937, a son of Edna (Unruh) Stubby and Jacob Stubby.
Homer Eugene “Gene” Copeland, 96, of McPherson, KS, died Oct. 17, 2022.

NEWTON – On Saturday, October 8, the McPherson Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team closed out their 2022 season by traveling to Newton and taking the League Championship Trophy of their division of the Wichita Suburban League.
PRATT – On Thursday, the Smoky Valley volleyball team got a boost of two spots to now be ranked eighth in Class 3A of the newest rankings by the Kansas Volleyball Association. The Lady Vikings got the boost after getting a clean sweep of their two matches at a triangular on Tuesday at Pratt.

EL DORADO, Kansas – With just under a week to go until regionals are underway on Saturday, October 22, the McPherson Bullpups cross country team turned in one of their best performances of the season at the AVCTL Division III and IV meet in El Dorado on Thursday for a fourth-place finish.
