The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced the selection of 626 high school seniors as semifinalists for the distinguished Cooke College Scholarship Program. The highly selective scholarship provides high-achieving students with financial need up to $55,000 each year to cover the costs of college.

The Ladies Reading Circle resumed meeting this fall after a long break during Covid. In November, December and January, members enjoyed Mexican lunches at the Senior Center. After a planning meeting in November, members shared Christmas stories and holiday plans in December, and in January Carla Barber presented a program on New Year’s resolutions.
Bluestem PACE, a nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors live well at home, will host its annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 1, at 9 a.m. in McPherson, Kan. Those interested in registering for the PACE Race can do so at bluestemks.org/events. Registration is $30 by Feb. 15 and includes a race t-shirt. After Feb. 15, registration increases to $35.
