Recapping McPherson County area sports
While some to forget, the greater McPherson County area is home to plenty of quality high school sports programs with Canton/Galva, Elyria Christian, Little River, Inman, Moundridge and Smoky Valley. Here is a recap of the six area schools for the week of February 6 to 11: Maybe the highlight of the week was the Moundridge Middle School Junior Lady Wildcats who finished their season unbeaten at 16-0. When you consider the ‘B’ team also went 9-0 as well.
Lady Pup wrestling sends three to state
WELLINGTON, Kansas – The first steps of postseason has hit the McPherson High School girls wrestling team, as the Lady Pups sent three wrestlers to state following regionals in Wellington on Saturday.

Bullpups overwhelm Vikings in Think Pink night sweep
The McPherson basketball teams have been no stranger to big games this season as they carry a combined 27-5 record, but the Bullpups competed in one of their most memorable games of the season Friday night by hosting their 16th annual “Think Pink” night in a sweep over Winfield.
McPherson Middle School programs working
This year, McPherson Middle School (MMS) adopted strategies to lessen occurrences of bullying and behavioral problems.MMS set an objective to implement schoolwide positive behavior practices that encourage acceptable behavior, reward accomplishments, and hold students accountable in a way that offers respect and dignity at the beginning of the school year. In order to achieve that goal, the school took a number of measures, including consistency in expectations and the implementation of initiatives across the building, development of a consistent plan to meet the building's safety and security needs. MMS Principal, Inge Esping set personal goals for increased clarity, communication, collaboration, and a positive culture.

McPherson County Sheriff hires Drug Recognition Expert
The addition of Deputy Kaleb Speilman to the staff of the McPherson County Sheriff's Office makes McPherson County Sheriff Jerry Montagne happy. He is a skilled law enforcement officer as well as a drug recognition specialist (DRE).

Inman City Council approve USD 448 Plat
The Inman City Council approved the Final Plat for the USD 448 addition. The high school proper had never been platted.
County Commission hears from local hospitals
Lewis Newberry, McPherson Center for Health CEO, was the first to address the commission saying the sales tax committee has researched needs in the county and how to expand services. The committee is looking to get the sales tax issue on the ballot in November. The sales tax revenue adds about $2.4 million per year.
Moundridge City Council Meeting
The Moundridge City Council met on Feb. 13. Those present included Mayor Kevin Schmidt; Council members Ryan Durst, Wayne Fisher, Kent Winsky, and Kirk Stucky. City Administrator Murray McGee was present as well. Jeremy Moore was not present After the minutes and financial reports from January were approved, a representative from Kansas Rural Water Association, Doug Helmke shared that his team is happy Moundridge wants to proceed with the Water Protection Plan including drilling new wells.
