Topeka takedown: Lady Pups earn fifth place at Invitational
The final results of the 17th annual McPherson Invitational girls soccer tournament were recorded following the matches on Friday, March 31, and the McPherson Lady Pups finished the tournament in fifth place after defeating Topeka in penalty kicks.
The Swedish Pavilion, a World’s Fair remnant preserved in Kansas
Even though Kansas never hosted a World’s Fair, there are remnants today in the cities Wamego, Lawrence, and Lindsborg. Most buildings and structures designed for World’s Fairs were designed to be temporary, normally torn down after the fair was over and in some cases were burned down because of the material used to build them.
VFW celebrates Easter
This past Sunday, the McPherson VFW Auxiliary hosted an Easter celebration at the VFW Post for kids from McPherson and the surrounding communities. Nine kids turned up for the VFW Auxiliary’s inaugural Easter picnic in 2019.
Bringing flight to the next generation
Homeschool students in the McPherson area and students from the Moundridge Middle School Aviation Club had the opportunity to fly on March 24 at McPherson Airport. Stephen Carty from Chapter 1344 of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) came to McPherson Airport on Friday to bring aviation to the younger generation.
Myers’ no-hitter sparks sweep of Circle
One week after dropping their season opener against Buhler, the McPherson Bullpups baseball team used stellar pitching and big bats to power past Circle in gusty winds to sweep the Thunderbirds and earn their first two wins of the season.
Bullpups tennis takes third to open season
The Kansas high school tennis season is officially underway, as the McPherson high school boys tennis team opened their 2023 season with a home invitational on Tuesday, March 28 that saw four different Bullpups finish in the top 10 and come away with a third-place team finish.
Area roundup: County schools kick-off 2023 seasons
As the final days of March pass by and the month of April begins, so does the spring seasons for area high school sports at Little River, Inman, Smoky Valley, Canton/ Galva, Elyria, and Moundridge. All six schools began their 2023 baseball and softball schedules while a few also kicked off their season of track/field meets.
Big bats lead Lady Pups to sweep
Although the 2023 softball season is still young, the McPherson High School softball team’s bats have shown up in a big way as the Lady Pups used another dominant offensive performance Thursday afternoon to sweep a doubleheader against Circle.
