McPherson Lacrosse Club reaches new heights

A town that is most famous for shooting a ball through a hoop is now surging towards a sport where the ball is thrown with a stick, as lacrosse is starting to pick up steam in the McPherson area following a visit by two NCAA Division I lacrosse teams.A sum of 22 state basketball championships at the high school level and the first ever Olympic gold medal in basketball permeates the sporting air in the city of McPherson, but a new contender has started to work its way up as the McPherson Lacrosse Club is gaining traction.In 2020 during its inaugural season, the club struggled to find its footing due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.

Balanced scoring boosts Bulldog women back to win column

FOREST CITY, Iowa – After a two-game losing streak dropped the McPherson College women’s basketball team’s record to 3-3 on the season, the Bulldogs broke free from the losing train with a 65-59 win over Waldorf College in Iowa on Saturday, November 25.The Bulldog women started off their 2023-2024 campaign with a 3-1 record that saw McPherson take wins over Barclay College, Manhattan Christian College and Central Christian College.

Moundridge farmers earn conservation award

The Flickner Innovation Farm in Moundridge has received its fair share of attention from international research groups, industry representatives, policy makers — even a group of scientists from NASA visited in 2022.Ray and Susan Flickner, owners of the farm, have received a few awards along the way for the work done at the farm - with the latest announced just last week.Ray and Susan Flickner have been selected as the recipients of the 2023 Kansas Leopold Conservation Award.“Farming is a journey, in my opinion,” Ray said in a video produced Sand County Foundation announcing the award.

Seventh grade Pups find their stride

A disappointing start to the basketball season saw the McPherson Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team drop a 36-20 decision to Salina Lakewood, but since the loss, the Lady Pups have found their stride by winning six out of their last eight games.The 16-point loss to Salina Lakewood was quickly left in the dust as McPherson turned the loss into its first win of the season by squeaking by Mulvane 36-34.

Ensz honored

The McPherson County Sheriff’s office presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Layne Ensz of Inman on Tuesday.Ensz received recognition for going above and above to help the Kansas Highway Patrol and McPherson County Sheriff Deputies with a traffic accident last week.To ensure the safety of the first responders, protect the scene, and prevent unnecessary traffic, Ensz assisted in carefully directing traffic at the accident.Ensz was given the award by McPherson County Sheriff Jerry Montagne in appreciation of his good deed.
