Area roundup: County schools put stamp on 2023

It was a noticeably light week before the six McPherson County area schools broke for the Christmas break as just three schools played games the week of December 18 – 23.Elyria Christian had a pair of games, playing both Monday and Tuesday while Canton/Galva and Little River had games on Tuesday.Heading into the break for the area girls teams, the Little River is 7-0 and ranked number one in Class 1A Division I while the Canton/Galva girls are 6-2 and riding a four-game win streak, Moundridge is 4-2, Elyria Christian has won three of four to sit and head to the break 3-5 while Inman is 3-3 and Smoky Valley is 2-3.For the area boys teams, Elyria Christian is 7-1 and ranked third in Class 1A Division II while the Moundridge boys are 5-1 and ranked fourth in Class 2A.

Lindsborg Old Mill Museum Passing the Torch At Executive Director Position for Smooth Transition

After guiding the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum through two important and successful years – including the 125th anniversary of the Old Mill’s construction – the museum’s Executive Director is preparing to hand off her position to a new chief executive.She will stay in the museum’s top job until the right person is found to take her place, then will move to a more supporting role as Mission Director after the new Executive Director is hired.“I’ve served at the museum in various roles for more than 40 years now and am getting ready to retire within the next few years,” said Lenora Lynam, Executive Director.

Bulldogs fall in 2023 closer

Prior to breaking for Christmas, the McPherson College men’s and women’s basketball teams competed in their final game of 2023 as both teams fell to William Woods and College of the Ozarks respectively to end the year.McPherson Men:Before their final game of 2023, McPherson was in the midst of enjoying a three-game winning streak as Evangel, Bethany and Ottawa had all fallen victim to the Bulldogs in their past three outings.However, McPherson’s opportunity at carrying a four-game winning streak into 2024 was snatched away following the Bulldogs’ 78-69 defeat to William Woods inside of the McPherson College Sports Center on Wednesday, December 13.McPherson led by as many as seven points two separate times during the first half before settling on a one-point 36-35 advantage heading into halftime.
