Commissioners change floodplains

McPherson County Commissioners approved changes recommended by the Planning Commission for subdivision regulation and floodplain management along with revisions to zoning regulations and the official zoning map.Changes to subdivision regulations add requirements related to water availability through private wells and rural water districts as well as a requirement for soil surveys to determine on-site wastewater disposal options. The removal of a variance requirement for construction of non-residential structures in floodplains reflects a change adopted by the Kansas Division of Water Resources. All modifications made since 2009 are included in the zoning laws, along with changes to the sign regulations to conform to rulings from the Supreme Court.
