The first full week of March is done, and the high school basketball season is over with as the Moundridge boys won their second straight Class 2A Championship and the Little River girls lost for the first time all season and finished second to Frankfort in Class 1A Division I.Canton/Galva boys were the third area school in a state tournament where their Cinderella story ended with a loss in the first round of the Class 1A Division I boys to eventual state champion and top seed Montezuma/South Gray County.Now we get a couple of weeks to regroup and change challenges with spring sports like baseball, softball, golf, soccer and of course track/field all beginning in full by the finish of the final week of the month.Here is a summary of the Wildcats state title run as well as state games for the Little River girls and Canton/Galva boys.MOUNDRIDGE WILDCATS They did it!!

SALINA, Kansas – A perfect season and a chance at a state title neared a breaking point with three minutes and 38 seconds left in the class 4A boys state championship game on Saturday, March 9, but McPherson improbably dug itself out of an 11-point hole to force overtime and come away with a 65-59 win over Hugoton to win its 14th state title.A 36-30 lead in the fourth quarter and an unblemished 24-0 record was fading quickly for McPherson in the waning minutes of the class 4A boys state championship game.
